how to choose a solo travel adventure

Choosing a solo female travel adventure can be both exhilarating and hard work! With absolutely no-one to answer to, the world, and every opportunity within it, is an option. So how do you decide what's right for you?

Some people like to select at random, knowing that any adventure will be worth it, but it's also important to consider this time alone as a chance to benefit yourself and your overall well being - think of it as 'soul payment'.

City and beach breaks offer something completely different to a volunteering opportunity or physical challenge. Assessing what you really need in your life at the time can be a great place to start and will ensure you get the most out of your solo travel time.

These three questions can help:

1. What do I want to get out of my next adventure?

So you've just landed on home soil after a great solo trip - what do you want to have achieved or gained in your time away? Space? Mindfulness? An opportunity to meet new people or perhaps try something new, like working with animals? Relaxation? Adrenaline?

What's going to make the journey worthwhile for your personally?

2. Where can I practically go (both in terms of time and finance)?

Do your research to find out which opportunities align with your time and finances. The last thing you want is to be stressed about either while you're away. This can take some time but it's so worth it when you find the perfect fit and will only lead to greater enjoyment of the experience. Remember, you don't have to see everything at once. Choose quality over quantity.

3. What's my mindset?

This is harder to consider if you're booking in advance but generally asking yourself this question throughout your planning and travels is important and helpful. Take a step back and really think about how you are, both mentally and physically, and the kind of environment or activity that will serve you positively at the time.

Of course, general exploration of new countries and cultures is key to any experience and very rewarding in itself. However, if solo travel is something you're experiencing for the first time or in restricted bursts, alongside full time work, these three questions can help to guide your thinking and narrow down what type of adventure you really want to experience with the time you have.
